Boing!

I hit the ground and my whole body springs back up. I land safely on my feet and my hair falls in front of my face. I can see through my bouncy, dark curls and it would appear all the fancy gold clasps that were holding it in place have fallen out by the sheer force of my springy impact upon the glassy ground.

“Kate!” Dillon calls my name. “Are you all right?”

“I’m fine!” I fling my head up and my curls whip back. “I fell!” I shout. “We fell! We bounced!”

“I know, right?” Dillon is wringing his hands nervously. “That was some crazy shit!”

“Hell yeah it was!”

“Where have you been?” A male voice booms.

Oh no. My extra heads are back. Or were they ever gone? Hera’s head starts talking too. “What did you see inside that city?” It says.

“Who’s talking?” This question is from Dillon.

“You can hear them?” I ask him.

“He can hear us?” Hera says.

“I can hear other voices, Kate.” Dillon steps closer to me. “But I don’t see your mouth moving.”

I nod my original head. “Yeah, those are my two extra heads I told you about.”

“I thought you were joking.”

“I thought you might have thought that.”

“So, young mortal,” Zeus’ head speaks loudly again. At this rate I might go deaf in my right ear. “You can hear us, but not see us, correct?”

Dillon scratches the back of his neck. He looks very uncomfortable. “Mortal?” He replies. “Yeah, I can hear you, but I don’t see any heads other than Kate’s beautiful one.”

I think Hera’s head just gasped at Dillon’s comment on the appearance of mine. “Yes, he obviously can’t see me.” She hisses.

Hello, jealousy.

“Where is our son?” Zeus bellows.

“So you have two extra invisible heads.” Dillon mumbles.

“You mean Jason?” I ask, still fizzle-brained after boinging off the ground.

“Of course he means Jason.” The Hera Head snaps. “Have you forgotten about my son so easily, Kate?”

“What? Oh no.” I stumble over my words. I stop looking at Dillon and zone in on reality. If you can call the strange place we’re in realistic. “I don’t know where Jason is. We were up there.” I crane my neck back and so does Dillon. “We saw a floating mountain and–”

“You saw Mount Olympus?” Zeus Head interrupts.

“Kate,” Hera Head says. “You need to find Jason now.”

“That blonde kid? He’s in there.” Dillon points at the glass city. He still looks mighty confused about the voices emanating out the sides of my head. At least his response was coherent.

“So is my friend Shana!” I hurry toward the glass city.

“Hold up!” Dillon shouts and runs after me. “Are you sure you want to go back in there?”

“What is in there?” Hera Head whispers.

“Persephone and Hades.” As soon as I say this my body solidifies. I’m halted in my tracks and I can’t move.

“Zeus!” Hera Head shouts. “Release her at once or you will drain your powers.”

Dillon almost collides into the back of me. He stops and comes around to face me. I’m posed like a runner who is paused in mid-run.
